Rise for Climate: european march on Sunday 27 January in Brussels
2019 a new year of fighting for the climate in Belgium, in Europe and around the world.

After the great march of December 2nd, our mobilization for the climate resumes this year. Sunday 27 January will be the first "climate action day" with several actions taking place in Belgium and France
Rise for Climate, which organized monthly rallies from September to November, will continue with a march in Brussels.
It will coincide with a civil disobedience action in front of Rue de la Loi, led by ACT for Climate Justice.
Local actions will also take place in Mons (27 January), Liège (4 February) and we expect in other Belgian and European cities. This mobilization will be in collaboration with many French cities such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Avignon...
The march in Brussels will start at 14:00 at the Schuman roundabout in front of the European Council building and proceed to the European Parliament on Place du Luxembourg (practical details are still subject to changes pending consultation with police).

The objective of the march is to challenge the Belgian government as well as the heads of state and government who will attend the European Council summit in Brussels on March 21st and 22nd. The march participants will call on them to meet the target set by the European Parliament of a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. We also endorse the Climate-Finance Pact proposed by the economist Pierre Larrouturou and the climatologist Jean Jouzel for Europe to invest 1 trillion euros per year to fund the ecological transition.
The civil disobedience action “Pas de loi climat ? Pas de rue de la Loi !” will take place just before the march. This action aims to challenge Belgium to make climate and social justice a priority, notably by adopting an ambitious climate law. Act for Climate Justice calls to occupy the Rue de la Loi close to number 16, the seat of the federal government.
The march of December 2nd was historic. We showed how many of us demand change. Yet COP 24 was a failure for Belgium and for the world, says Kim Lê Quang of Rise for Climate. "Despite the threat of a global cataclysm and of wars over natural resources, the Paris agreements are still not respected by Belgium nor a majority of countries."
"A massive mobilization once in a while, like that of 2 December, is clearly not enough" asserts Marie Hayens. "So we will be pressuring continuously and also outside Brussels. Our mobilizations may not be as large, but they will be more insistent.”
"The stakes are huge" adds Gaetano Boutcher. "By 2050, we expect between 250 million and one billion climate refugees who will likely be the first victims of the mass extinction of which many scientists are warning." Our mobilizations have the support of Stromae, Jean-Pascal Van Ypersele, Greta Thunberg, Angèle et Charlotte, Philippe Geluck, Félicien Bogaerts...

Action !
