Mission Statement

The March for Science champions publicly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good and for society to enact evidence based policies in the public interest.

Why we March for Science in Portugal?

We march in solidarity with people who value science around the world and in support of countries where politics threatens the scientific community and access to science. Recent events in the US and elsewhere show how easy it is to threaten support for access to scientific evidence, discourse and funding, here in Portugal or around the world.

We march in defense of evidence based policies in the public interest. We affirm access to science and scientific evidence as a democratic value, where critical thinking, open and accessible data, and free discussions lead to a better society.

We march to give visibility to science and scientists, and the problems facing the scientific community in Portugal. We aim to help demystify science and the humans who practice it, giving visibility and support to the struggle for a stronger relationship between science and society in Portugal.
